COMPOSERS' ROOMS

Composers' Rooms was devised for BBC Radio 3's Hear and Now. Sara and producer Andrew King visited 33 composers in the spaces where they work, exploring the relationship between environment and creativity. Composers' Rooms was nominated for a 2015 Prix Europa.


OPEN EAR

Open Ear was a new music showcase on BBC Radio 3 which Sara devised in 2016 and co-curated with Radio 3 producer Philip Tagney. Cutting edge new music was presented in the round in an informal setting. Open Ear featured as part of the BBC Proms 2017, in a late-night concert in the Tanks @ Tate Modern. 


SAVAGE PILGRIMS

For BBC Radio 3's Sunday Feature, Sara travelled to the high desert plains of New Mexico with Reduced Listening producer Peter Meanwell, to make a programme about this powerful landscape, and why it attracts so many artists and composers to make work there. 


STRAVINSKY'S JOURNEYS 

For the Philharmonia Orchestra's RPS award nominated series Stravinsky: Myths and Rituals, Sara wrote and presented a 35 minute documentary film about the composer's travels through St Petersburg, Paris, London and Los Angeles. 


WAGNER'S RING CYCLE

In 2013, Sara heard her first live performance of Wagner's Ring Cycle, and blogged about the experience for The Guardian. 


THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL

As part of a series of Five Seismic Moments in 20th Century music history for BBC Radio 3's The Essay, Sara contemplates the impact of the fall of the Berlin wall on music on either side of the Iron Curtain. 


EIF SOUNDBITES

In 2014 and 2015, Sara collaborated with Sinfini and the Edinburgh International Festival on the Soundbites podcast series. Sara wrote and presented two series of short podcasts: intriguing and witty introductions to over 50 major works of classical music.

For International Women's Day, Sara wrote two pieces about the gender gap in classical music:


HILDEGARD OF BINGEN

As part of a series of BBC Radio 3's The Essay in which presenters pick their unsung musical heroes, Sara's highly personal radio essay considers the extraordinary legacy of composer, mystic and herbalist Hildegard of Bingen. 


TÖNE FESTIVAL

In June 2014, composer/curator Claudia Molitor commissioned Sara and producer Peter Meanwell to create a piece of radio art for a new festival of sound/art. TÖNE took place over the summer solstice in the Chatham dockyards, and featured an array of composers and artists working with sound and light, many of whom Sara interviewed for the continuous radio broadcast. 


SARAJEVO 

Sara visited Sarajevo for the BBC to report on a Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra concert to mark the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
